Use ai at the beginning or middle of a word, like rain and paint. Use ay at the end, like play and stay. Students fill in the missing vowel team, circle the correct spelling and sort words into ai and ay. The rule works for most words, but there are a few exceptions. The exit ticket shows you who has it.

Why I made these
I taught 3rd grade for 7 years. Now I homeschool my own kids and tutor children with reading difficulties and dyslexia. Spelling rules give kids a reason for the spelling instead of a guess. I made these so each rule is short, easy to see and easy to practice.
